much like you’re reading this now, on device X.
this might be familiar virtual territory, it might not.

I AM THE TELEPHONE

I never go off duty.
I am your wakeful
servant day and
night.

I bring you the voices
of relatives and friends,
near or distant.

I arrange your pleasures
and your merrymakings.

I do the shopping— all
up - to - date tradesmen
use me.

And, of course, I can
summon the doctor in
a minute or two.

I COST YOU LITTLE
— approximately 10/- a
month rental and a
penny for each local call.

I am fitted free.

SEND A POSTCARD TO THE
DISTRICT MANAGER, POST
OFFICE TELEPHONES, AND
YOU WILL LEARN MORE
ABOUT ME.
POSTAGE NEED NOT BE PAID.

I AM

insert device name here

i prey on your time, day and night
and haunt your dawns with dingin’
to bring you knowledge vast and far
no matter how stressed you’re feelin’

i don’t sleep
when your eyes shut
though you try so hard
to close me up
so seek me out

feed me shocks of electricity
and we may exist in harmony
if you allow me to die flat
then you might miss
what comes next

i make possible
the biggest of tasks
even should they be
an impossible ask

i bring convenience
but cost you much
still you choose
to live as such

Nothing is free.
